Outdoor hiking is a great way to exercise and catch a glimpse of nature and all of its beauty. Many people all over the world enjoy this outdoor past time. One of the first things that you need to focus on is having a good backpack. This is the one item that will carry all other essential items for your outing. It is recommended that you choose a backpack that is durable as well as comfortable. You are going to be carrying this backpack all day, so you want to make sure that the shoulder straps are adjustable and that the material is durable but lightweight. It also needs to be large enough to carry all your hiking equipment effectively.

First aid kits are another very important item in hiking equipment. Injuries can happen anywhere at any time. It is always best to be prepared for them when they occur. Whether it is a scratch, bug bite, snake bite or some issue caused by the weather conditions; you should always be prepared for it.

Having a map and a compass is useful for any outdoor trip that you take. These tools will help you find your way when you are lost. Certain types of maps can also show you the terrain that is in the area.

Always take extra water and food with you. These two items are essential to your outdoor hiking equipment checklist. Heat can dehydrate your body and cause some serious conditions. Your body needs to stay hydrated at all times. You never know when you are going to get hungry, so it is always best to take along extra snacks just in case. These items will also help in the situation that the trips lasts longer than expected.

In the case that you are hiking at night or your trip finds nightfall, it is always good to have some kind of light to help you find your way or find things that you need. Flash lights are the perfect choice. You should always pack at least 2 or 3 and keep extra batteries handy. Some people choose to use LED headlamps instead, this is also an excellent choice.

A survival knife is another great tool to have. Knives can be used for many different situations. A survival knife usually comes with a few things that you may need out in the wild such as; a few matches, some fishing line and a fishing hook. They can also come with different items sometimes.
